Set Review ➟ LEGO® 75442 - The mandalorian N-1 startfighter UCS
Another new set from the Star Wars line has arrived. This time it’s the Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter together with his beloved Grogu. It’s a 1,809-piece set, with 2 minifigures and a price tag of €249.99 on the official website. Here we can see the box art for the set. It looks absolutely fantastic!
As always, the contents include a good stack of bags, the instruction manual, some stickers and a couple of hose bars — this will certainly keep us absorbed for quite some time. It’s also greatly appreciated that the descriptive display plaque usually included with sets of this scale is printed rather than being a sticker :).
The build begins by focusing on the ship’s nose section and the start of one of its wings. At this stage it’s already clear that this is going to be a large model. The wing attachment partly relies on Technic arms to ensure a very solid connection between the sections.
By the time we reach this stage, with practically the entire base of the model complete, we start to notice those details that I personally enjoy so much. Those shapes achieved when bricks are used creatively. I’m referring specifically to this section with some very clever greebling-oriented design.
The underside of the ship features an implementation that I found genuinely sublime. It’s extremely robust and the fit, as you’ll see in the following images, is incredibly tight and refined.
As I mentioned at the beginning, this is a large ship, so you’d better start preparing a nice little corner to display it.
The upper side panels are an absolute joy. I love how such spectacular results can be achieved with only a few small ball joints. Take a look at the attachment point — simple yet perfect.
As expected, the lower front section and the sides are covered up… what an excellent fit we have here!
Once the underside is complete, we shift our attention back to the section housing Mando’s cockpit as well as Grogu’s. The upholstered seat detail for the Mandalorian looks absolutely exquisite to me.
Only a few finishing touches remain on the ship’s body now, after which we’ll move on to the engines.
Now it’s time to take a look at the Mandalorian minifigure. It looks similar to previous versions, although at least the legs are new. Do you like it?
The display stand for the model is simple yet extremely sturdy. Once the model is mounted, you can carry it around holding only the stand without any fear at all.
Now it’s the turn of the little star of the saga, Grogu. We can see that the outfit has changed compared with previous versions of the character. We can now enjoy him wearing his characteristic brown robe. What do you think? I absolutely love it, and it suits the character from the series far better.
The rear central engine is delightful. What I liked most is the fit deep within the structure of the model. It’s attached using a Technic axle, yet the result is so clean...
From this point onwards, you’ll be able to see the technique behind each of the N-1’s engines. Without a doubt, it’s a work of pure ingenuity.
The N-1 is now ready to overcome any adventure that might surprise our characters! Without a doubt, this is a must-have set. Why? It’s a brilliantly executed model with some techniques that impress through their simplicity, while others are undeniably complex and far from being mere happy accidents. It’s also sturdy, fairly faithful to the original ship, and comes with an excellent parts selection. Not only does it include a fantastic collection of silver elements, but also several new parts references, some of them extremely good. Naturally, the new and detailed minifigures further increase the value of the model.
