Set Review ➟ LEGO® 71851 Ninjago Dragons Rising Kai’s Dragon Mech Battle Pack
This 85 piece set consists of three minifigures with weapons and a mech suit. The suit is yet another redressing of the formulaic small mech suit template with familiar cockpit, familiar shoulder/hip/ankle/wrist connection beats, and some thematic cosmetic touches.
One of the cosmetic considerations this time out was to give the mech suit a transparent orange flame-shaped tail with new 7727 mold piece. I have to think the choice of color along with shape was somewhat ill considered or a case of quiet revenge or something, as the…uh…unfortunate…position of the piece looks less like a tail and comes across as more of a flaming arsehole.
Minifigures
The Kai figure comes without carbuncled shoulder pads and whatnot as it needs to fit in the cockpit of the mech suit. The torso and leg prints are new while the head print is reused.
The Sora figure comes with familiar head and hair pieces but with new torso and leg prints.
The villain of the set is blessed with the innovative and memorable sobriquet of Earth Monster. Earth Monster is outfitted with a sort of crab-claw looking hat that alternately serves as hat and weapon in other sets.

Summary
This is a nice small set providing a mini mech suit with slightly better currency value than the roughly comparable licensed superhero mini mech sets. And three minifigures plus a mech suit is a mech suit more than getting three minifigures at the BAM kiosk for the same price. The minifigures are available in other sets in this wave with the note that the Kai figures in other sets have additional elements.
